Tag is not writable
I get an error message when trying to write to the tag - "Error occurred while writing" "Tag must be formatted before use" "Tag cannot be written to"
When I tap a tag, nothing happens - I can't write to it and when I tap it my phone doesn't make the "NFC" sound or seem to detect it at all.
99.9% of the time, if a tag is not initially working, the methods outlined in the first point above resolve the issue. Since all tags are shipped blank, usually it's just a matter of formatting them as listed there. - Make sure the tags your are using are compatible with your phone. NTAG203 & Topaz 512 Tags are compatible with all phones. Mifare Classic Tags are compatible with MOST devices, but are not compatible with all devices including the Nexus 4 phone, Nexus 10 tablet, and Samsung Galaxy S4 phone.
- All AndyTags NFC Tags (Stickers & Key Chains) ship blank and unformatted. Generally, when an app writes to a tag for the first time it formats the tag. However, occasionally for some reason an app will not be able to write to a tag that has not been formatted or written to before. This is rare but it does randomly happen every now and again with no rhyme or reason as to why. The solution however is simple. If a particular app is not able to initially write to (and therefore format) a tag, simply installing another app and using it to write/reset/format the tag should do the trick. Usually I recommend using NFC Smart Q's "reset" function first, NFC by Moo's "reset the card" second, and StartNFC Expert's Tag Actions (Format NDEF or Format NDEF for MifareClassic) third, OR using ANY other NFC App and just writing anything to the tag. Once the tag has been written to once or formatted by any NFC App, it should then be writable by the original NFC App or any other app.

- This is pretty much the same issue as the above and by following the steps in #2 outlined there (resetting/writing to/formatting the tag using an alternative NFC App) you should easily be able to resolve the issue.

- Make sure you have NFC enabled on your phone. Go to settings and look for NFC. Make sure it is turned to "On" or "Enabled"
- Make sure you are tapping or touching the tag with the correct area of your phone/tablet. Most phones have NFC antennas on the back. A few newer devices also have an NFC antenna area on the front, but this is currently rare.
- Are you using a custom non-stock ROM? While some ROM's look to enhance the NFC capabilities, it is always possible with any custom ROM that there may be issues with some features of the phone including NFC. Things like side-installing Google Wallet on a device that doesn't have it available in the market can break the NFC Tag detection.
- If your phone is not detecting tags at all, you're NFC feature is definitely enabled, you've tried the troubleshooting steps above, and you're using the stock ROM (you haven't rooted and installed a custom ROM) then contact us for further assistance.
